Open sourcing the first 20 Teachable monthly investor updates:
A founder of a company I invested in was recently enquiring about our path to $1M in ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue).
I dove into our data and sent him this graphic that shared our progress in the early days:
It took us roughly 19 months from when we incorporated the company or 26 months from when I first started working on Teachable as a side-project.
There were a lot of people with great questions like:
- What strategies were the big inflection points along the way?
- Were there any critical hires that helped us hit the milestone?
- What were the mistakes we made that slowed us down along the way?
And while I do intend to answer those questions at some point, I figured the easiest thing for me to do at this stage is to publicly share the first ~20 or so investor updates we ever sent.
These provide a "behind the scenes" view into what we were thinking at the time, the metrics we measured -- and some guidance on the strategies that worked for us over the time period.
This covers the time period from May 2014 (when we incorporated the business) to November 2015 (when we passed the milestone)
I hope you'll enjoy reading them!
